Jill Wheat
Jill has been teaching private and group performing arts lessons since 1997.  Voice is her specialty.  She has previously taught nine years of public school general & choral music and drama programs encompassing grades K - 12.  She has performed with OperaUnMet in Boston, MA and multiple community theaters throughout New England.  At the moment Mrs. Wheat is mostly working on adjusting to her new baby girl, Ruth Alice Wheat, who was born June 19, 2011.
She is a public school certified vocal music teacher in the states of ME, MA & NY and also holds a B.S. from Emerson College in Performing Arts with concentrations in Musical Theater/Theater Education.  Jill is a Kodaly teacher having studied in the Kodaly Institute at New England Conservatory of Music.  Kodaly is a method for teaching children music theory & sight-singing using the do, re mi's & rhythm syllables.
Mrs. Wheat believes that arts education is a multi-generational process including traditions collected across time.   Younger generations learn the value of the arts and carry it with them adding, altering and experimenting to adjust to our ever changing environment.  To this end Jill has participated within a variety of community arts related organizations including: New England Folk Festival Association Dance Performances Chair ~ Lancaster Cultural Council Chairman ~ Massachusetts Cultural Council Member ~ Williamstown Choir Member ~ Town Green Buildings Advisory Committee Member, Lancaster, MA ~ Lancaster Contra Dance Founder & Organizer ~ Greater Gardner Community Chorus Member ~ Song Sailor Singers Director ~ Camden Civic Theater Board Member, Camden, ME ~ Simonton Corner Contra Dance Committee Treasurer, Rockport, ME.
Putting aside all of this resume style writing, as a teacher, performer and crafter, I have learned that creating, sharing and giving are some of the most rewarding and productive tools one can acquire.
